Fancy a day at the beach? Or do you have some time to kill before you take a cheap flight from Southampton? It might be worth checking out what this university town has to offer. There's so much history here, that one day might not be enough to take it all in. Start with one of the many walking tours of the historic Old Town. Take the Titanic walking tour for instance and learn about what devastating effects this tragedy had on the people of Southampton. Visit some of the city's great museums such as the Maritime Museum. Then head to the Mayflower park at the waterfront to give your feet a rest and watch majestic ships sail by. To keep the water theme going, have lunch at Town Quay where an abundance of bars and restaurants awaits you. And if you're lucky, you will be able to see the Queen Mary 2 if it's docked in the harbour. If you're visiting on a Friday, do try one of the New Forest sausages at the general market at Bargate. It's there throughout the whole day. For dinner walk over to Ocean Village and choose from the many restaurants set in the marina and enjoy a gourmet dinner while watching the pleasure boats and yachts that are moared here.
