What you need to know before you book your airfare and tickets
The capital of Portugal is only a 2 hour flight away from the UK and makes for an excellent city break destination. So get cracking and book a cheap flight to Lisbon. Once you are there and you don't want to spend heaps on cheesy city tours, hop on the yellow tram 25. It whizzes right through all the narrow streets and alleyways, up and down the hills of the historic streets of the city. It only costs you 1.40 Euro. Tip: Make sure you get on at the beginning or end of the line as this little tram is extremely popular among tourists and can get very jam packed. Hop off at the Sao Jorge castle to immerse yourself in some history and to get some great views of the city. For the most amazing custard tarts you have ever tasted, head over to Belem a suburb of the city. Oh and you could also visit the monastero de Jeronimos. If you haven't overeaten on the tarts, that is. For authentic Portuguese food and some traditional Fado music, head to the historic Bairro Alto. Try out restaurant El Gordo and feast yourself on Portuguese and Spanish tapas. For some cheap after dinner drinks, check out Favela Chic where a mojito will only set you back 3.50 Euro. Bottoms up!
