What you need to know before you book your airfare and tickets
Heraklion is the biggest city on Crete and also its capital. There are loads of things to doin this buzzing city that also makes for a perfect fall out base to explore the rest of the island and beaches. So don't wait around and book your cheap flight to Heraklion, Greece now. The best time of year to visit is spring and autumn when the temperatures are in the 20's and the beaches a lot quieter. Got bored of lying in the sun? Then go and do some sightseeing. An absolute must visit is the Palace of Knossos. It is set on a vast area of over five acres and the palace has more than 1,000 rooms. You can walk from one room to another through ancient hallways. The structure dates back to around 1300 BCE. Some people say that this is the place that featured in some Ancient Greek mythologies such as the one with King Minos of Crete, the myth of Icarus and Dedalus, and the one about the Minotaur and Theseus. You could spend a good two hours at this place. Go early in the morning to avoid the crowds. After this return to Heraklion and go visit the museum in town and perhaps take a look at the Venetian fortress. If you want to see a bit more of the island, get yourself a rental car and drive along to Chani. Stop in at Rethymnon for a bite to eat by the harbour . Wander around the streets of this little town before you head back to Heraklion. Take a dip in the sea at one of the many beaches on the way back. In the evening head to Parasies for some great Greek food and live entertainment. It's apparently one of the best Tavernas in town. Go check it out.
