What you need to know before you book your airfare and tickets
Bad day at work? Don't quit your job just yet, but book yourself a seat on a cheap flight to Cancun. White beaches, clear blue water and sweet cocktails await you. The Yucatan peninsula boasts some of the best beaches in the Caribbean of which Yucatan and Playa del Carmen are the most popular. There are several ancient Mayan ruins located in this province, so you can alternate your lazy days at the beach with soaking up some culture and learning about the Mayan ways. Chichen Itza is only a day trip away. Hire a old style Beetle and make your own way or book one of the many tours on offer. Alternatively drive to Tulum in the morning which is another ruin complex that is overlooking the ocean. Have some lunch in Tulum pueblo followed by a dip in one of the secluded bays along the way back to Cancun. Is staying at an all inclusive your thing, then you will have no problem finding something to your liking in Cancun's hotel zone on the coast. There are several smaller hotels in the old town area, but if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle and the hordes of cruise ship passengers, head to Playa del Carmen. The beaches are just as beautiful but less crowded. The town has a more authentic feel to it as the buildings are all low rise and the nightlife is less loud and raucous. Check into a room at the Blue Pearl Suites and watch the sunset from the pool on the roof deck. Avenida Quinta is the main drag. This is where it is all happening after sun down. Sample some local fare at one of the traditional Mexican restaurants such as El Fogon and finish your evening with some drinks at one of the many trendy bars such as El Alux.
