What you need to know before you book your airfare and tickets
Kick off your Peruvian holiday with a cheap flight to Lima. Like many other large cities, Lima has its fair share of skyscrapers. However, the centre itself is filled with beautiful old colonial buildings. The Historic Centre of Lima is always a popular destination. The imposing Archbishops Palace features a pair of dramatic balconies over the main door, and has some beautiful stained glass windows lighting up the interior. Some of the oldest houses in Lima can be found near the Palace. The magnificent mansions of Oidor, Aliaga, and Pilatos were all built in the 16th century. The Basilica Cathedral, Convento de San Francisco, Sanctuary of Las Nazarenas, and several other churches are also clustered in this area. Parts of the old city walls can still be seen today, in a little park behind the Convento de San Francisco. If all the walking around is taking its toll on your tummy, why not head for a chifa for a cheap, tasty meal? Chifas offer Chinese-influenced meals with a Peruvian twist, and are very popular in Lima. There is a wealth of fresh seafood available in Lima, and ceviche is a popular dish here. Cevicherias can be found all over the city, serving up variations of the tangy seafood dish, with a Pisco-flavoured cocktail on the side. The little district of Barranco, right beside the sea, is an ideal place to enjoy a fresh dish of ceviche.
