What you need to know before you book your airfare and tickets
Fancy some Chinese take away? Why not hop on a cheap flight to Hong Kong and get the real deal? This former British colony has got everything you would expect from a cosmopolitan city; shopping, dining, sightseeing and even gambling. For the latter you do need to travel to Macau which is a full day trip, but believe me, it's well worth it. The former Portuguese colony has more of an authentic Chinese feel to it and the casino's here outsize and outbling the ones in Las Vegas. The shopping can be done back in Hong Kong on Nathan road or at the Sogo mall in Causeway. For real bargains head over to the Temple Street night market which is open till late. If all that shopping has made you thirsty, book a table at the Peninsula Hotel for some afternoon tea with finger sandwiches and scones. Maybe not so Chinese, but very yummie anyways. Afterwards head upstairs to the Felix Bar to take in the superb views of the city. If you're a guy, make sure you go and spend a penny at the loos here. Not sure what happens in there, but apparently it will be the best wee ever. Sorry Ladies! If you don't mind hanging out with Western Expats then the place to go and party the night away is Lan Kwai Fong road. Plenty of bars to choose from and some of them have pretty good live bands. Most tourists go to Lantau island to see the big Buddha statue, but if you want to do something, take the ferry to Lamma Island. Leave the boat at Yung Shue Wan and walk across the island to Sok Kwu Wan. It's a nice laid back island with bohemian shops, nice nature trails and even some beaches. Before you take the ferry back to Hong Kong you can have a delightful seafood meal by the water. A fantastic day trip if you want to get some peace and quiet away from the noisiness of the city. If you are a sweet tooth, you simply can't leave Hong Kong without having tried a tasty desert at Hui Lau Shan restaurant in Hong Kong New World Tower on Huaihai Zhong Lu Road. Provided you like mangoes...
