What you need to know before you book your airfare and tickets
The Bavarian capital is well known for its rowdy Oktoberfest in the autumn, but what you might not know is that there are some awesome ski slopes only a short drive away. So if you want to go on a ski holiday, but still want to reap the benefits of staying in a city, book a cheap flight to Munich. It certainly gives your apres ski a cosmopolitan flavour. There are a few ski resorts nearby, such as Wallberg, Alpspitze, and Zugspitze. And they're only about 90 km away from the city. They are easily reached by car or public transport. Enjoy the fresh air and the fantastic ski slopes during the day before returning to the bustling night life back in Munich. Have one of the many beers on offer at Wunderbar, one of the many real Bavarian Bierkellers. The setting is truly Bavarian; guests enjoy their beer sitting on long tables decked with red and white chequered table cloths. Watch the waiters dressed in lederhosen carry arm fulls of beer while you enjoy your own. For a hearty meal, head to Wasserman. They serve delicious local fare such as sauerkraut and schnitzels. Great to warm up from the winter cold outside. And eventhough it might not be really German, try the Austrian cuisine at Alpenraum. It's a trendy place that is attracting the local in crowd. Another way to unwind after a day on the slopes is to hit the sauna. Enjoy a soak at the Mullersches Volksbad. Oh and don't be shy, because the Germans are used to bearing it all.
