What you need to know before you book your airfare and tickets
With Obama in the White House American politics are cool again, so what better time to book a cheap flight to Washington DC? Besides the standard touristy attractions such as Capitol Hill, the Lincoln Memorial and the Smithsonian Museum, there are some lesser known, but no less interesting sights to see. How about taking in a show at the Ford's theatre where President Abraham Lincoln got shot? There is a museum in the basement if you want to learn more about what exactly drove John Wilkes Booth to commit murder. Or what about a visit to the Washington cathedral in the North of the city? It might not be as old as most cathedrals in Europe but it boasts some spectacular stained glass windows. Continue your day in the American capital with a stroll through the leafy streets of Georgetown. You can wander around the university grounds and give your feet a rest in one of the many cafes lining the pavement on M Street. For dinner and drinks, try the bohemian area of Adams Morgan, North of Dupont Circle. Besides some quirky shops, there are loads of restaurant options on 18th street. If you can't make it here for dinner, do try the breakfast dishes at Tryst. You won't regret it. If you've got some extra time to venture outside of the city, try to visit Mount Vernon, George Washington's country estate or the town of Alexandria.
