What you need to know before you book your airfare and tickets
Want to add a bit of sun to your grey winter days? Head to sunny Spain and book a cheap flight to Valencia. If you're headed to Benidorm, do make sure you spend some time in Valencia before you head there. Valencia boasts some interesting sights and nightlife that are well worth checking out. Here are a few things to do. Start in the Barrio del Carmen to soak up the history of Valencia that dates back to ancient Roman and Arabic times. There are quaint squares and charming churches such as the Seu Cathedral. Do make the effort to climb up the 207 steps and admire the far stretching views across the city. Then head to the central market to stock up on some local produce and other Spanish goodies. Or just walk around and admire the Moorish architecture of this covered market that has been around for years and years. Take a look inside the impressive building that used to house the silk exchange that's just around the corner from the central market. There is not a great deal to see inside the building, but the architecture is well worth it to have a quick peek inside. Get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and take a stroll through the Montforte Gardens. Admire the neoclassical design and the many statues and fountains. Valencia also has some nice beaches that are not too far from the city centre. Try Pineda beach which is located south of the city port. It has all the mod cons for a great day at the beach. Valencia is the birth place of that famous Spanish dish paella, so one can't leave this place without at least trying it. Try the food at Pilar cafe. They serve other authentic Spanish dishes and of course they do great tapas if Paella is not your thing. Another great place to eat is the Ginger Loft Cafe. It might not be the most Spanish of menus, but the food is mind blowingly tasty. Then let your hair down at the many late night bars and clubs. There is something for everyone. Barrio Del Carmen is great for the Bohemian types and Blasco Ibanez for students and Juan Llorens for the trendy types.
