What you need to know before you book your airfare and tickets
Looking for some ideas for a European weekend break? Why not book a cheap flight to Salamanca in Spain? This being one of Spain's major university cities, it boasts a vibrant atmosphere during the day as well as after sun down. The old part of the city was declared a Unesco World Heritage Site in 1988 and it's well worth having a look around. Start at the Plaza Mayor in the heart of the city. It's also called the living room of the people in Salamanca because this is where it all happens. It was formerly used to stage bull fights but nowadays it's mainly used for concerts. If there are no gigs planned it's a nice place to sit and have a coffee and just enjoy watching the people go by. Next to the Plaza Mayor is the central market where you can stock up on some fresh local produce and other yummie goodies. Continue on to the two cathedrals and admire the ancient Romanesque architecture of the old cathedral and the Renaissance style of the new cathedral. Of course with all the students around there will be options galore to have a good night out. And cheap. The best nights out are from Thursdays to Saturdays when the many bars are heaving. Have a drink at El Helmantico. They sometimes put on special offers to attract more punters. Another popular place to go is the Litro bar. This is not actually its real name, but you can find it on the corner near Morgana. For some of the best tapas try one of the many tapas bars around the Plaza Mayor. Calle Clavel and Plaza San Juli'n are two other locations for some great tapas and other local dishes.
