What you need to know before you book your airfare and tickets
Who says Paris is just for lovers? The city is only a hop, skip and a jump away and with cheap train tickets and cheap flights to Paris abound, it makes for an excellent short break destination even if you are not in love. If you want to avoid the herds of tourists and the usual attractions, take a stroll around some of the oldest streets of the city in the area called Le Marais. Once a swampy field, it now is a nice area to spend your Sunday afternoon. There are plenty of authentic French cafes to do some people watching or go bag a bargain in the many shops scattered around the quaint streets. Head over to Rue des Rosiers and try the falafel from one of the many kosher falafel shops. For high tea the French way, check out Mariage Freres on Rue Bourg-Tibourg. They have over a hundred different flavoured teas which you can enjoy in the tea room or take away and enjoy at home. For culture vultures, there is the Picasso museum or how about a tour through the house of Victor Hugo, the author of Les Miserables?
For dinner try out the fare at Au Chien qui Fume on Rue Rivoli, towards le Chatelet. They serve some of the freshest seafood which you can enjoy either inside under the watchful eye of the smoking dogs in the paintings on the wall or on the little patio in the back. If you want to give your evening a bit of a financial flavour, head over to Footsies. A bar near L'Opera. The name is a play on words with a wink towards the London Stock Exchange, which is where the theme of the bar comes from. The prices of the drinks depend on the demand of the punters. So make sure you watch the board and get your order in when prices are down.
