What you need to know before you book your airfare and tickets
Fancy a day trip not too far from London? Take the Oxford tube to this quaint University town which is only an hour's ride away from the capital. Even if you're no longer a student Oxford is a lively place to spend a day or two. Visit one of the many colleges that are part of Oxford University. Try Magdalen. The splendid ancient buildings on the college grounds will conjure up times long gone by and the leafy parks and gardens on campus make for a perfect place to take a stroll. If you're lucky, you might even spot some deer. Finish the day by renting one of the punt boats and see if you can manage to stay afloat on the Thames River. It surely is a different way of taking a tour of the city. One of the sights is the Oxford version of the Bridge of Sighs that looks much like the original in Venice. To learn more about the spooky side of this university town, book yourself onto Bill Spectre's Oxford Ghost Tour. This walking tour takes place on Friday and Saturday nights come rain or shine. Expect some hair raising accounts. There are many restaurants scattered in the city centre, but if you can't make up your mind try the Pan Asian fusion buffet at The First Floor Restaurant on Cowley Road. The prices are student friendly and for 5.50 GBP you can have an opulent lunch at this brand new restaurant. Afterwards have a coffee or tea at Georgina's Coffee Shop. It's located above Brothers. Get ready for some delicious pastries and cakes. Have dinner in the conservatory at Gee's restaurant on Banbury Road. Afterwards do as Dylan Thomas and quench your thirst with a pint or two at the Port Mahon Public House.
