Escape the grey weather here by hopping on a cheap flight to Larnaca. Soak up some history as you soak up the sun. Larnaca is supposed to be one of the oldest cities in Cyprus. Your flight will most likely land at Larnaca International Airport, and from there, it is only a 15 minute taxi ride to the city centre. Relax with a stroll along the Promenade - Phinikoudes - and enjoy great views over the harbour. Take a short trip out of town at night to admire the bright lights illuminating The Kamares, an aqueduct built in the 18th century to supply the town with water. You may also want to visit Stavrovouni, one of the oldest monasteries in Cyprus. Perched on top of a hill, it offers visitors spectacular views over the whole district, and it is said that on a clear day, you can even see all the way to Lebanon! Climbing a hill is tiring work, so recharge your batteries with some tasty Cypriot fare. Sausages such as pastourma and loukanika are served in restaurants and cafes all over Larnaca. Enjoy them with a side of grilled halloumi cheese, or a salad with feta, and then finish off your meal with a selection of traditional sweets.
