What you need to know before you book your airfare and tickets
If you haven't been to this city yet, then now is the time to do so. Book a cheap flight to Izmir and discover the modern cosmopolitan side and history of what was once the Ancient Greek city state of Smyrna. This city has seen many different cultures and peoples come and go, from the Greeks and the Ottomans, to the Lydians and the Romans. Nowadays it attracts a wide variety of nationalities from all over the world as well, but they are flocking to this city merely to spend their holiday here. There are still quite a few remnants of its rich history such as the Agora of old Izmir to discover. Just wander around the old Kravanserai which dates back from the 1700's and soak up the culture. It's located in the historic Kemeralti Bazaar district which also boasts the fabulous Hisar Mosque. A very interesting way to spend an afternoon is to get lost in the colourful streets of the Basmane neighbourhood. It's one of the most traditional streets in a city that is very cosmopolitan. Don't forget to have a look at the marble clock tower as well. Do like the locals and sip on a super strong Turkish coffee at one of the cafes on the Pasaport Quay at the port of Izmir. They do lighter ones for people with a delicate stomach. Not to worry. Or have a meal on the Konak pier which was designed by the famous Mr. Eiffel. (You know the one who designed that tower in Paris...) Especially nice at dusk.
