What you need to know before you book your airfare and tickets
Located on the banks of the river Main it's the financial hub of Europe and many airlines fly into the city's busy airport. So you will be sure to find a cheap flight to Frankfurt somewhere. Whether you are visiting for business or pleasure, you can easily spend a few days enjoying the many sights, bars and restaurants. If you only have a few hours to kill between meetings, visit Goethe's birthplace. It was rebuilt in the 70's after the original house was destroyed during the Second World War. There is a museum next door that will tell you more about the famous author's life.
The main shopping street is Zeil, where you'll find your German high street brands. For more upmarket labels, check out the shops in the Goethestrasse, but make sure you bring a big wad of cash because it ain'y cheap. If you're visiting in summer, find an outdoor cafe on Fressgass. Here you'll find many shops, cafe's, plus some great restaurants and funky bars. If you want to get a taste of some traditional German fare, try Gerbermuehle restaurant. Besides the sauerkraut and German sausages, they also serve tasty international dishes which you can enjoy in a modern setting with superb views of the river. If the weather is nice try the cocktails at the Roof Garden at Sansibar. It's only open in summer for obvious reasons. Alternatively try the bar at the Roomers hotel. It's a brand new hotel with stylishly decorated rooms and they do great food as well in the adjacent restaurant.
