What you need to know before you book your airfare and tickets
Next time you book a cheap flight from Exeter, take some time to have a look around the city itself. Although a lot of the old buildings were destroyed during the Second World War, the city still has a lot to offer for history buffs. One of them is the famous medieval cathedral that dates back as far as the Roman times. An interesting way to get acquainted with the city's history and architecture is a guided city tours. Check out Red Coat Guide Tours. They offer many different themed tours of the city such as ghost tours and children's tours. Check with the tourist information office to see which ones are running. If you are more of an outdoorsy type, you will not be disappointed either. The town is the gateway to Dartmoor national park where a multitude of walking trails are waiting to be explored. Or rent a car and drive through the sometimes moon like landscape and stop at one of the little villages for a real Devonshire cream tea. If you are looking for cheap accommodation in summer, make sure to check availability at one of the student halls. Otherwise there are plenty of inexpensive B&B's in and around town. It might be a bit indulgent but food lovers can't leave Exeter without having a meal at local celebrity chef Michael Caines' restaurant at the Abode Hotel. Tip: get in early and you can take advantage of the early bird deal. For your after dinner drinks, head over to The Quay overlooking the river Exe, and have a pint at the Prospect Inn. On some evenings they play live jazz.
